Yoga

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

A while back I started doing yoga. One of the benefits of working where I do is that there is a free yoga class twice a week. The class is usually small (5 people or so), and our instructor is excellent. I really couldn’t ask for a better setup.
Our class starts with a warm-up, then [...]

Great Swim

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

I had an excellent swim yesterday, which has me quite excited. When I started
swimming about 6 weeks ago I hadn’t swum in forever, and had never really
managed any freestyle. I could swim about 20 yards of freestyle consistently,
and had a lot of trouble breathing in water. Breathing in water still really
sucks, but I do it [...]

The Entry That Almost Wasn’t

Friday, December 9th, 2005

This blog entry almost didn’t get written. A few weeks ago I decided it’d be
fun to have a blog. I’ve been reading a lot of them (most the ones linked by
Tri-Geek Dreams) and the idea
appeals to me. Plus, I figured it’d improve my writing some, and it would give
me something to read a few years [...]

Sick

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Being sick can really mess with your training plan. Yesterday an upset stomach
kept me in bed or in front of the TV for most of the day. Yesterday was my run
day, which I really can’t skip. When you’re only running once a week, skipping
that one run means skipping 100% of work-outs. Lucky for me, I [...]

Biking Safely

Friday, December 2nd, 2005

An friend pointed me to a site with some very graphic
pictures (really, don’t click if you have a weak stomach), telling me to
be sure to wear a helmet when I bike. I always wear a helmet, but it got me
thinking about one of my pet peeves.
When I’m out on the street around here, I see [...]

Beautiful Run

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Thanksgiving seems to make everybody post lists of what they’re thankful for.
Instead, I will just describe all the good things about today’s run, and state
that I’m thankful for everything that made that run happen (which is a lot of
things).
Late in the afternoon I stepped out the door into cool evening air. I walk a
short distance [...]

My First Brick

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

This morning I biked to work (12 miles) for the first time in quite a while. I
still took it fairly easy, keeping my cadence high. (A crucial part of that is
to not have your bike computer show you how fast your going. Having the
average speed showing is even worse.)
It was a pleasant surprise to see [...]

Ride in the Dark

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

On Thursday I did my weekly bike ride, after work. Thanks to evil
clock-people, it’s dark by the time I get home from work. (I would happily
drive to work in the dark to get at least some daylight after work.) Sure,
it’s not as safe as riding in daylight, but I don’t think the risk is all [...]

The Thrill Of Commitment

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

Commitment is a thrilling experience. Every time you commit to something, you’re announcing to the world: “I’m going to do this thing, whether you like it or not.” Meanwhile, if you’re like me, you’re thinking: I sure hope that wasn’t the wrong thing to do. Put together, this makes for an excited-nervous feeling in your [...]

A Watch That Talks

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

My old watch drowned a few weeks ago. It was a cheap Casio with 3 buttons, an
alarm, a stop watch, and it knew what day of the week it was. Since I like
gadgets, and I expect watches to last a long time, I paid a little extra for a
little fancier watch. My new watch can [...]
